By The Rail Fence
A star filled sky, the night that I cried by the rail fence we silently
stood,
Forbidden to be as no one should see, you held in my arms as our time
together was pure and good.
The walks that we took, how closely we dared to look, finding a forbidden
path to take,
I spoke my heart to you, truthful, yet sad and blue, by the rail fence
gazing out over the lake.
Moonbeams on your face, reflections of pure lace, your smile given
truthfully to me,
Hands held tight, our hearts feeling right, we shared a love for few to see.
My confessions of pain to you, how I cried the night through as you held me
with such strong arms,
Hard for me, not to let my heart go free, as I spoke with you and gave you
all my charms.
By the side of the lake, high up on the bluff the rail fence was our special
walking place,
My heart was given to you here with a love I did not fear, as you are pure
and full of heaven’s grace.
Holding my hand so warm, I felt our love was born, walking along the gentle
green hill,
All of that night through, I truly fell in love with you as I gave you my
heart with a large need to fill.
Could it be fair to say, that on that special day, by the rail fence was a
place that was our destiny,
Late in the night, the stars of high bright, you held to me tight with a
love pure and meant to be.
Your eyes that sparkled with life, I gave you no strife, only my heart and
soul from so deep,
Remember me there, as you held on with such care, yes my love by the rail
fence I did openly weep.
I have now written for all to see how beautiful you are to me, as my heart
was truly given there to you,
A summer’s dream past, I pray our love to last, for you are now within me my
whole life through.
It was by the rail fence where we went, our summer we there spent, forever I
am yours you must believe,
Oh dear sweet Mara of mine, please be gentle and kind, you have forever all
my love now never to leave.
