While out hunting one fall day, I had the good fortune to have a lone canvasback drake fly into my rig.  He landed on the outside of my decoys, well within range of a good shot.  I was just so struck by his kingly appearance, that I passed on the shot and just watched him slowly swim directly away from me. Looking back over his shoulder, he seemed aware that he was safe.   I enjoyed the view and the moment in the wild, where he showed me why he was known as the "king of ducks".   His stately appearance and beauty still stand out in my mind.  My focus was on him and that is the way I chose to sketch him, just the simple outline of him swimming away with that distinct head.  It was a challenge to capture this rendition, swimming straight away.  My final thought on this "king of ducks" is, "may he always fly".
