The Colt Model 1911
“An American Icon Defending FREEDOM for 100 Years and Still Counting"
(A Brief History)
Born out of necessity from the Morro Insurgency in the Philippines at
the beginning of the 20th Century and designed from the shear Genius of
John Browning, the Colt Model 1911 .45 ACP beat out it’s competitor
"Luger" for the US Military Side Arm Contract in 1908, and then again on
the Battlefields of World War II.
John Browning was arguably the greatest firearms designer of his time.
He sold the rights to Colt, who manufactured it and supplied the US
Military; they designated the gun “Model 1911”, for the year it was put
into service. Mr. Browning was also a true man of honor; after the
Japanese attack on Peal Harbor and America's immediate involvement in
World War II, the US Government set aside his Patent, allowing as many
manufacturers as possible to make the gun for the war effort. John
Browning, being a true man of his word, would not break the deal he
struck with Colt and refused to make the gun. As history shows, even
today Browning does not make a Model 1911.
This “Masterpiece” of firearm Dependability and Accuracy was carried by
the Dough Boys fighting in the trenches of France in World War I, and
all Branches of the U.S. Military during World War II, Korea, Vietnam,
the Gulf War and even today by U.S. Elite Special Forces in Iraq and
Afghanistan. It has also been made famous as the service pistol of many
American Police Forces, none more famous than "The Texas Rangers”, and
is still in service today.
The Colt 1911 is the choice of Pistol Enthusiasts, Military and Police
Forces alike, which has withstood the test of time! All would agree that
there is no equal, and proud ownership makes this gun an American
Tradition being passed down from generation to generation!
The Colt 1911 joins the great guns of American History, which have
withstood both the depths of struggle and the glory of victory! This
American Icon’s unique story is still being written by those patriots
fighting for freedom around the world today!
