Back to Ducks

This drake Redhead certainly seems arrogant enough, for sure. Swimming straight away, as if to say take your best shot! I have seen ducks do this a lot of times when out in the wild, and upon once such occasion I saw this little guy doing it on a beautiful fall day. The head is very striking on the drake and as he was swimming away I couldn’t help but notice that big yellow eye, seemingly never leaving its intent gaze upon me as I was watching him.  It’s always a thrill to see such a scene in the wild and its fun for me to try and recapture it in its moment. Falls come and go and so do the birds that I enjoy capturing on canvas, with my brushes and also in the blind, with my decoys and equipment. In time, if fate is kind to you, you may also get close and capture a scene like this, I truly hope you do have a chance to do so. This small rendition is one of my better sellers, created in acrylic; in an open signed edition it has become very popular for me.  I think that everyone enjoys the attitude of this bird, as if saying over and over, you can kiss off. Yes, I think I can read his mind, for he sure didn’t seem alarmed when I was up close and watching him. I hope you enjoy this little guy as much as I did. “May they always fly” DFH
